Would you like your Session “For Here” or “To Go”?

You can take your session files at Sound Weavers with you for further production on your own facility, your home desktop or laptop, at your own time.

I got into digital audio recording with the following, an M-Audio DMAN interface (a PCI card with break out cables (4out/4out TRS) and Cakewalk software, then moved to Pro Tools on Digi001, then an MBox for portability. I was able to achieve pretty good recordings with those tools (which were a lot better than ping pong recording using consumer double cassete decks). But despite my setup, I always went to a friend’s better equipped and better acoustically outfitted studio for tracking drums and vocals. Then I would take home the sessions on ZIP disks (CDR’s were still expensive then).

Sessions are so much more portable nowadays. It is common for technically inclined or just plain curious folks to have a multitrack digital audio workstation (DAW) on their home computers. Licensed or crack (none of my business) these folks have taught themselves recording and mixing songs in their home based recording setups. The simple setup enables laying down of arrangements by getting guitar direct through those 1/8" plugs, looping drum tracks, or MIDI’ing other parts – all of which are foundations of a song.

Track (record) your drums and vocal parts at Sound Weavers – then take the raw cross platform WAV session files with you – for tweaking, manipulation and mixing in your own computer’s DAW software where you can finish the project – up to the point where you burn your own CD master.

But before you tell us "make that session to go" – here are a few bits of info you should know.

  1. What bit depth does your DAW support? we recommend 24-bits
  2. What sample rate does your DAW support? we recommend 48Khz although we support up to 96Khz sample rates
  3. Be ready with names for your tracks – so that you will recognize the files on your home PC
  4. Bring your guide track on a CD – the song idea you have built on your own setup
  5. Bring blank CDRs (for one 4-minute song with 16 tracks) or a DVDR for bigger capacity.

You (or your producer) own the session files, it’s your session, it’s your music. You can do what you want with it. Last but not the least, don’t lose the session disc coz we will not retain a local copy on our discs.
