In July of 2009, I received a rather unique inquiry; a lady from East Timor writes her own songs and would like to record them. On our first meeting, and upon hearing the songs for the first time I recognized the musical and logistical challenge that the project presented; we'll have to decipher and transcribe each song from the vocal parts, then arrange musical parts and conform the rather unique beats and rhythm of the original format to pop standards. Inside, we talk about the project and share a music video, too!

Voice of Zion Choir in Concert at Philamlife Auditorium - Choral Recording

Voice of Zion is the music ministry of Westminster Student Church in Manila. On Feb 7, 2010 they celebrated a 60th anniversary concert at the Philamlife Auditorium in Manila, Philippines.

We were asked to do remote recording of the choir's full concert program. 16 songs for a total of 90 minutes worth of audio, maybe longer. Inside, we discuss our remote recording set-up and conifguration. We also share videos with audio recordings of the choir's final rehearsals. Featured here are the songs "The Lord is My Shepherd" and "Salmo 150".

A Capella Manila Choir - Remote Recording

A Capella Manila is a choir composed of professionals and students from various schools, universities and companies in Metro Manila. We arranged to conduct a test remote recording session with them at a huge residence in Makati.

We brought our remote recording studio equipment and set-up a multi-track system by assigning one ribbon mic for each voice section Soprano, Tenor, Alto, Bass (STAB). We also set-up two stereo microphone systems, a Blumlein with Royer SF12 ribbon and a spaced pair with Peluso R14 ribbon to capture the stereo spread the room. Condenser mics by GrooveTubes were setup as the mic for the solo singers. Inside, watch a video with photos and audio of the choir.

Welcome to the 2nd episode of our video podcast here at Sound Weavers. This episode is titled "How to Use or Sing to the Mic in the Recording Studio" and features a guest singer/vocalist D-Ann Griarte who will demonstrate her singing talent and microphone technique/skills.

One of the biggest psychological challenges (if not fears) of non-professionals coming to our recording studio for the first time is how to sing to the professional microphone. With this video podcast, we will try to provide information on BASIC techniques to put the recording newbie at ease and relaxed, ready for their voice recording session. The most important factor is that the singer is relaxed, knows her lyrics and dynamics (soft and loud) parts then sing as usual.

Music, Score and Sound for Indie Film Sabungero

We just finished a very demanding project involving the music, score and sound for indie film Sabungero.

Sabungero is about the game of cockfighting in the Philippines. The main actors are Joel Torre, Ricky Davao and Maritoni Fernandez together with a stellar supporting cast Syd Lucero, Robert Arevalo, Noni Buencamino and Leo Martinez among others. Produced by Sabong.net.Ph - this independently produced movie will be shown at SM commercial theaters in the last week of September.

Passion Generation Christian Praise Music in Tagalog

Here is a short video feature about one of the music recording and mixing sessions conducted here at our temporary studio. The Passion Generation Band is a group of young Filipinos from Calbayog City, Samar. They are lead by Kevin Cho, a Christian missionary and professional music producer who hails from South Korea. They came in with a live recording of their concert at a church in Quezon City - the plan was to clean up the audio and mix the songs at Sound Weavers. However, Kevin the producer and our engineering staff realized that the songs can really benefit from a few overdubs to really elevate the production to professional and international standards, thus the musicians were called in again to cure some of the performances. This is not bad at all, even famous and name artists routinely clean up and fix their live recording releases.

Loft Build. Recording Studio Construction Update.

We just want to update visitors to our web site on the progress of construction of our new recording studio. First off, we are way behind schedule. There were a few revisions on the recording studio design aimed at determining the best way to construct and selecting the materials for the Recording Studio's Loft or Mezzanine level. Initially, we were presented with timber flooring for the loft and this is fine with our UK-based recording studio designer. However, based on experience, we kept on with the research until we decided that concrete will be more durable for the Loft, it will also be more quiet and have a bigger load capacity (for our Control Room ceiling) as compared to timber.
